I was having a conversation about the state of the music industry with a close friend today and he brought up Thom Yorke’s recent comments in an interview. Basically, dude thinks “It’ll be only a matter of time, being months rather than years before the music business establishment completely folds.”
Sigh. I have so many questions my friend.

You think, mainstream music companies are just fresh out of ideas?
Haven’t read one report stating physical sales are down?
They’re just gonna ride that dying horse til it’s dead?
Sorry buddy, I just don’t think twelve dudes are in a conference room staring down at a black piece of paper thinking “Well shit, this was fun but ride’s over.”
None of this is new, Thom.
I agree with you, musicians don’t need to tie themselves to a sinking ship. However, if one of these mainstream companies builds a better boat and develops a current and relevant business model, jump on board. You ever see Titanic? Even that bitch had survivors.
You can find Xaphoon and his exceptional work here.
~Ohh! So Famous!
If anyone thinks the music business is folding up they must be from another planet or galaxy. Business- Yes it’s changing, drastically, progressively changing. Music- All life on Earth can use the vibrations of particular tones to trigger physiological changes that even increase endorphins and other factual scientific findings. Music is a natural part of life’s balance. So in conclusion I prove as all things may change other things remain.
It’s a really simple equation.
Do people make music? + Do people like music and will they buy it? + Will someone sell music? = the Music Industry
I think what Thom means is, the music industry is dead as he knows it.
There never was a music industry. It was all just a dream. And this comment doesn’t exist.
We are the music industry. We hold it in our hands at last. If some big label wants to help me later on that’s great but it will cost them more because of the work we,ve already done.
it’s all about music communication platforms changing. some continents will apply this method faster depending upon their access to technology. so…time is the determinant, months, years…who knows.
g’luck all. soon ‘No Profit but Share’ is going to be the new world in music.
