I feel all dem bloggers need to stop sucking everyones dick for the sake of getting an “exclusive”. If it’s great, give it the props it deserves. If it’s not, throw it in the trash. Kinda stupid that if someone puts out a song regardless of how it sounds, the simple fact that their name is associated with it gets it played, shared, and hyped up.

Early this morning, M.I.A.’s “Born Free” was pulled from YouTube for it’s “Graphic Content” in a claim that the video is “too violent”.

I’ve seen countless videos belonging to YouTube “partner accounts” with more blood, more violence, and most importantly that by YouTube standards are against their TOS.

All I’m saying is if your going to pull a video for violating “X” rule in the TOS, you better make sure you pull every video that violates “X” rule. It’s not right that this video gets pulled, and then YouTube partner videos go untouched for the sake of Google’s monetary gain. Here’s a cheesy video to remind you of all the videos you’ve seen on YouTube that haven’t been flagged.

I especially love the “We encourage free speech and defend everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view.” part.

Hmm… I see.

First off all, if you have red hair and freckles and are offended by this video, I am truly, truly sorry. But please understand, this is not aimed at you. Some people will disagree. But really. It’s not. In this video, you are the metaphor for society as a whole. You may feel indifferent about this and again, I sincerely apologize.

This video was pulled because it sheds light on a future very close at hand. One, certain individuals would rather us as a society be ignorant to until it’s say to late. One, that I would rather not face but seems to be crawling closer.

Our first track I instantly took a liking to. I couldn’t exactly pinpoint why until about the third listen, then it struck me and now I love it even more. I couldn’t help but think if I was getting murdered by a crazy (and I mean fucking lunatic) serial killer for whatever reason, this song would be playing in the background. Pumping out hit after hit, Lights Over L.A. hasn’t wasted anytime making a name for themselves. These guys are headed straight for the top. I’m calling it now… Lights Over L.A. will have the fame, the fortune, and the cars. It’s all theirs in the very near future.

At some point or another in their career, a musician must adapt their style in order to stay relevant. If they don’t, they fade into the dark and be forced to pass the torch on to the next generation. This is actually a last minute addition to this post, but I felt compelled to add it. I’ve only heard one other remix of this “Sex on Fire” without thinking, “No… just leave it alone… that doesn’t work.” Tom Molloy nailed this remix.

Nit Grit is a Dub artist out of San Jose who is pumping out huge sounds. It’s not hard to hear the time and effort put into his music. Paying off once again, “Lupin” is a mixture of heavy saw bass lines and hooking hip hop leads that leaves you in a state of pure bliss.

These next two tracks have fantastic production quality. Nuff said.

Our first,Youthless, is a indie electro duo out of Portugal who was brought to my attention via the Portugal Music Scene. Brilliant lyrical content, slightly detuned leads, and distorted guitar riffs make them the complete package. They were scheduled to support The Horrors and Crystal Castles in Lisbon on the April 17th, but the show has been rescheduled due to the Iceland volcano. Here’s their single, “This Must be the Place”.

I didn’t think it was possible to get amped listening to Tay Zonday. The 4TrackZ remix of Chocolate rain proved me wrong. This is simply epic. It constantly builds until exploding into the one final climax.

Crystal Castles have been involved in a number of creative commons lawsuits, accused of stealing other artist’s songs such as Lo-bat, HEALTH, and Covox. The latest defense I’ve heard for this is “Their label uploaded one of their remixes without them knowing it.” Ok so, If the label uploaded a remix, why was the file name not properly identified as a remix? ex: Lo-bat – My Little Droid Needs a Hand (Crystal Castles Remix). Also if you recall correctly, CC originally denied even knowing who these artists were.

Here’s what I find annoying. It takes talent to sequence drums, samples, and arrange songs in a hit format time after time. You might think anyone can sit down and with a few tutorials be on their way to creating the next hot album, but that isn’t true. Some people get it, and some don’t. Crystal Castles gets it and that’s what I hate. If you have the “it” factor, why not take a just little more time out and avoid all the legal troubles. Their new album is very win, I’m just hoping these issues don’t become a Trending Topic for this band.

Back in 2009, CC came to Dallas and canceled their sold out show, about an hour before go time and with fans waiting outside, because “The venue’s sound system was ill-equipped.” The Granada has catered artists to She Wants Revenge, Miike Snow, and Minus the Bear to name a few and having been to many live shows there, I call bullshit.

They proceeded to kick VEGA off their tour for a stolen pedal. Crystal Castles had borrowed one of VEGA’s guitars the previous night and the pedal made it’s way into their trailer at the end of the night. They immediately called CC’s management and informed them not to worry, they would give it back in Dallas. It seemed no matter what, the show was not going to happen that night. VEGA called up a local buddy, pulled some strings and proceeded to play a free show for everyone that turned out that night.

There is a reason why Crystal Castle’s myspace comments are “Approve Only”, YouTube videos are “Removed by a third party”, and they decided to denied interviews for such a long time.

PS: Have you heard of Kap Bambino? They’ve been around since 2002. Crystal Castles didn’t drop “Alice Pratice” until 2006.

Funny enough, I got both of these tracks at the same time. Brooklyn has been pumping out some great new artists. Adding to the roster, we have the Night Kids. Hard hitting basslines carry you out into the night. The warmly produced synths make you dance! dance! dance!

I personally, am very critical of mash-ups. Two songs mixed together and “Oh dude! that kinda goes!”… no thank you. They need to feel like one song.
